The worship of God is meant to transform people’s lives and to shape people’s character into a living reflection of God’s love. From the opening moments of worship, beginning with music and meditation, through hymns of praise, acts of prayer, magnificent anthems, proclamation of the Biblical story, and the weekly celebration of the Lord’s Supper, First Christian Church worships God and celebrates community with a spirit of joyful reverence and awe.
Sunday Morning Worship
The worship services begin at 8:40 and 10:45 each Sunday morning in the sanctuary, accented by the ten magnificent stained glass windows depicting the life of faith.
Monday Evening Worship
First Christian Church also offers Monday evening Vespers service at 5:15 in the chapel which includes reflection, prayer, a meditation, and Communion.
Ash Wednesday Service
Ash Wednesday Service is a communion and worship service held on Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. The Ash Wednesday service offers worshippers a time for personal introspection and the imposition of ashes.
Maundy Thursday Service
Maundy Thursday Service is a communion and worship service held the Thursday evening before Easter Sunday. Commemorating the Last Supper, the Maundy Thursday service offers worshippers a time for personal introspection during Holy Week.
Prayer Vigil is a 40-hour period of continuous prayer that is held following the Maundy Thursday Worship Service. Individuals devote themselves to prayer for half-hour periods during the 40-hour vigil.
Easter Sunday offers two opportunities for worship at 8:40 and 10:45 a.m. celebrating the resurrection of Christ, concluding with the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
Christmas Festival and Children’s Christmas Pageant
Christmas Festival and Pageant is held on either the first or second Sunday of Advent in the evening. The Christmas Festival includes a pageant led by the pre-school and school age children, along with the congregation’s bringing gifts for the Cleveland County Christmas Store, followed by a tasting party in the Fellowship Hall.
Christmas Eve Service
Christmas Eve Service is held at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary celebrating the birth of Christ. The service includes candlelight, seasonal music and scripture lessons.
Dedication to Christian Family Life
Dedication to Christian Family Life is a special opportunity for parents with infants or young children to commit themselves to Christian family life and present their children to the congregation. This service is held each year on one Sunday in December and Mother’s Day.
