Disciple Stance Class
This class is offered in September, January, and April on Sundays during the Church School hour (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) and is for visitors and new members who seek to learn more about the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the specific ministries of First Christian Church of Norman. Included in the topics for discussion are the foundational beliefs and practices of the church; a discussion of worship, baptism, and communion; and information about the church’s structure, budget, and outreach ministries.
The church offers Fellowship Dinners after worship on Sundays, typically once per month between the months of September and April, concluding with the all church picnic on either the first or second Sunday evening in June. In addition to the meal, some entertainment or informative program is offered.
Ventures is an adult education program consisting of classes and workshops on a variety of biblical, theological, and spiritual topics. As part of a Lenten discipline, Ventures meets on four Sunday nights during the season of Lent.
Chancel Choir is comprised of adults, college, and high school age youth. It sings during the 10:45 Sunday morning worship and at special occasions such as Easter, Christmas Eve, and special concerts. Small ensembles and soloists provide instrumental and vocal anthems for the 8:40 a.m. service. The choir practices each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary with Dr. Steven Curtis, director, and is open to all.
The Handbell choir rehearses each Monday evening during the school year at 6:30 p.m. in the church balcony. This choir plays once a month during Sunday worship services. It is directed by Christine Hrubik and is open to all who are interested.
