Outreach Programs
First Christian Church is in the top ten percent in the nation in contributing to outreach ministries in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). These donations go to General Ministries like the Disciple Mission Fund. Regional ministries we support include Oklahoma Conference of Churches, Oklahoma Capital Program, and the various ministries of the Central Area of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma. We support a variety of local non-profit social service agencies: Habitat for Humanity, Norman Mission Ministry, Center for Children and Families, Bethesda, Cleveland County Christmas Store, Meals on Wheels, Bridges, CASA, Project Outreach, Variety Care Norman, Food and Shelter, Inc., and Full Circle Life Enrichment Center.
Mission Trips
Throughout the year, Mission Trips are available for youth, college, and adults. These mission trips offer ministry locally, nationally, and internationally. Youth Mission Trip is during the summer; College Mission Trip is at the end of the School. Adult Mission Trips are at different times in the year.
Disciples Men Annual Benefit Bean Dinner
On the fourth Tuesday of January the Disciples Men offers an Annual Benefit Bean Dinner. Since 1990, this dinner has raised over $110,000 for the Medication Fund of Variety Care Norman, an agency that provides health care for the needy and those who do not have health insurance. All the men of the church are invited to participate.
CROP Walk
First Christian Church participates in the community-wide CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) which raises money for Church World Service, an ecumenical agency that addresses issues of poverty globally. Twenty-five percent of the money is donated to Food and Shelter, Inc., an agency that meets the needs of the homeless in Norman. FCC contributes $25 for every walker, and we have over 100 walkers each year.
Logos Service Night
Logos is the midweek children’s program for children in grades K through 5. Several times during the year, the children will go into the community and do service projects for individuals and agencies.
Food and Shelter Lunch
Once a month, a group from the church prepares and serves lunch at Food and Shelter, Inc., serving about 125 people.
